Council Garages and Garage Sites

We own garages and garage sites throughout Moray.  Anyone can apply for a Council garage or garage site, but we prioritise allocation of garages and garages sites, because of high demand and low turnover in many areas of Moray:

First priority:        Council tenants and members of their household who do not already have a garage or garage site.

Second Priority:   Non-Council tenants who do not already have a garage or garage site.

Third Priority:      Council tenants and members of their households who already have one garage or site.

Fourth Priority:     Non-Council tenants who already have one garage or garage site.

Please note:

  • Allocations within a priority group will be made in date order, oldest applications first.
  • Before moving from one priority group to another, the higher priority group must be exhausted.
  • Any garage or garage site must only be used for keeping a motor vehicle. Proof of vehicle ownership (for example a vehicle registration document) must be provided before signing the lease.
  • Sub-letting of a garage or garage site is not permitted.
  • Applicants who have a debt to the Council will not be allocated a garage or garage site until the debt is cleared.

Each Area Housing Team keeps a waiting list for garages and garage sites.

If you would like more information please contact your Council Access Point.  You can download an  application form here.

Insurance

Garage tenants will be responsible for arranging to insure their contents held in their garage.  The Council's Tenants Insurance Scheme is not appropriate as it will only cover the contents of outbuildings and garages within the same site at the address shown on their insurance schedule.  The Council's garages are usually in blocks, and separate from houses or flats.
