Fochabers/ Mosstodloch Bypass

Transport traffic Spey Bridge

Introduction

The A96 Fochabers - Mosstodloch bypass was one of five schemes approved as part of the Scottish Strategic Roads Review in 1999.

Following a public local enquiry (PLI), Scottish Ministers approved construction of a new bypass in accordance with the Reporter's recommendation in March 2005.

The contract for construction of the bypass was awarded to Morrison Construction and work began on site in February 2010.

Work will take more than two years to complete with the bypass due to be opened in spring 2012.

The new road consists of four roundabouts, a pedestrian underpass and 5.1km of single carriageway road. There will be alternating overtaking opportunities in each direction.

The estimated cost of the scheme is £31.5m.
