Christmas and New Year Arrangements
All council offices will be closed from 3pm on Thursday, December 24 until 8.45am on Tuesday, January 5.
Emergency council services
Over the holiday period the emergency out-of-hours service will operate as normal on 03457 565656 for all council services, including matters of child protection.
Community care will operate on December 29 and 30 and can be contacted via 01343 563999. Support workers will be contactable via their usual numbers. Day care centres will close at 4.15pm on Wednesday, December 23 and reopen on Tuesday, January 5.
Scottish Welfare Fund
Scottish Welfare Fund will operate a limited service on December 28, 29 and 30. Applications can be made on-line or be telephoning 03457 565656.
Swimming pools, fitness centres and community centres
Buckie Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre, Forres Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre, Keith Sports and Community Centre and Lossiemouth Sports and Community Centre will be closed from Thursday, December 24 until Saturday, January 2 inclusive. A holiday timetable will operate on January 3 and 4, with the normal timetable resuming on January 5.
Cullen Community and Residential Centre, Forres House Community Centre and Speyside Sports and Community centre will be closed from Thursday, December 24 to Monday, January 4 inclusive.
Elgin Sports and Community Centre and Milne’s Learning Centre Fitness Room will be closed from Wednesday, December 23 to Monday, January 4 inclusive.
Football pitches and pavilions
Closed from Thursday, December 24 to Saturday, January 2 inclusive.
Refuse and recycling
Household collections of residual waste (green bin) and garden/food waste (brown bin) will continue to alternate weekly and recycling containers will continue to be serviced fortnightly over the festive period. Collections may be carried out earlier than normal and containers should be presented for 7.30am.
All services, including recycling centres, will be closed on December 25 and 26 and on January 1 and 2.
Collections which would normally be made on Friday, December 25 will instead be made on Sunday, December 27.
Collections which would normally be made on Friday, January 1 will instead be made on Sunday, January 3.
The special collections and waste hotline will be closed from 3pm on Thursday, December 24 until 9am on Tuesday, January 5.
Excess waste can be taken to the recycling centres at Chanonry in Elgin, Gollachy at Buckie, Waterford in Forres and Balloch Road, Keith.
All public conveniences will be closed on December 25 and 26 and on January 1 and 2.
The St Giles and Batchen Lane multi-storey car parks in Elgin will be closed on December 25 and January 1. They will close at 7pm the previous evening and reopen at 9am the following day. Monday 28 December 2015 and Monday 4 January 2016 will operate Sunday hours. Alternative street level parking is available.
All libraries will close at 3pm on Thursday, December 24 and will be closed on December 25, 26, 28 and 31 and on January 1, 2 and 4.
Normal opening hours will apply on December 29 and 30.
The mobile library service will not operate from Tuesday, December 22 to Monday, January 4 inclusive.
The Elgin office will close at 3pm on Thursday, December 24 but will open, strictly by appointment, on Tuesday, December 29 and Wednesday, December 30 for death registration purposes only. It will then close from Thursday, December 31 to Monday, January 4 inclusive.
