Christmas and New Year Arrangements

Christmas Lights

Council Offices

All council offices will be closed to the public from 3pm on Tuesday, December 24 until 8.45am on Friday, January 3, we will respond to your on-line enquiry as soon as possible on our return.

Emergency Council Services

Over the holiday period the emergency out-of-hours service will operate as normal on 08457 565656 for all council services, including matters of child protection.

Applications for Crisis Grants and Community Care Grants can be made by accessing the on-line form from the Scottish Welfare Fund web page.

Community Care

Community care will operate on December 27, 30 and 31 and can be contacted via 01343 563999. Support workers will be contactable via their usual numbers. Day care centres will close at 4pm On Tuesday, December 24 and reopen on Friday, January 3.

Swimming Pools, Fitness Centres and Community Centres

Buckie and Forres swimming pools and fitness centres and Keith and Lossiemouth sports and community centres – all will be closed from Tuesday, December 24 to Thursday, January 2 inclusive, with a holiday timetable operating on January 3, 4 and 5. Normal timetables will resume on Monday, January 6.

Forres House Community Centre and Speyside Sports and Community Centre – both closed from Tuesday, December 24 to Sunday, January 5 inclusive. Normal timetables will resume on Monday, January 6.

Cullen Community and Residential Centre – closed from Saturday, December 21 to Thursday, January 2 inclusive. Normal timetable will resume on Friday, January 3.

Elgin Sports and Community Centre and Milne’s Learning Centre Fitness Room – both closed from Saturday, December 21 to Sunday, January 5 inclusive. Normal timetable will resume on Monday, January 6.

Football Pitches and Pavilions

Closed from Tuesday, December 24 to Thursday, January 2 inclusive.

Refuse and Recycling

All services, including recycling centres, will be closed on December 25 and 26 and on January 1 and 2.

Household collection of residual waste (green bin) and garden/food waste (brown bin) will continue to alternate weekly and recycling containers will continue to be serviced fortnightly over the festive period. Collections may be carried out earlier than normal and containers should be presented for 7.30am.

Collections which would normally be made on Wednesday, December 25 will instead be made on Saturday, December 28.

Collections which would normally be made on Thursday, December 26 will instead be made on Sunday, December 29.

Collections which would normally be made on Wednesday, January 1 will instead be made on Saturday, January 4.

Collections which would normally be made on Thursday, January 2 will instead be made on Sunday, January 5.

The special collections and waste hotline will be closed from 3pm on Tuesday, December 24 until 9am on Friday, January 3.

Excess waste and Christmas trees can be taken to any of the recycling centres at Gollachy in Buckie, Chanonry in Elgin, Waterford in Forres or Balloch Road in Keith.

Libraries

Buckie, Elgin, Forres, Keith and Lossiemouth libraries and the Local Heritage Centre in Elgin will close at 4pm on Tuesday, December 24. Fochabers library will open from 11am to 1pm but will not open in the evening. Dufftown library will open from 10am to 12 noon but will not open in the evening, while Burghead and Cullen libraries will open from 2pm to 4pm but will not open in the evening. Aberlour library will open from 2.30pm to 4pm but not in the evening

All facilities will be closed on Wednesday, December 25; Thursday, December 26; Tuesday, December 31; Wednesday, January 1 and Thursday, January 2. Normal opening hours will apply on Friday, December 27; Saturday, December 28 and Monday, December 30.

The mobile library will not operate from Monday, December 23 until Friday, January 3.

Museums

The Falconer Museum at Forres will close at 2pm on Tuesday, December 24 and reopen at 10am on Friday, January 3.

Registrars

The office at 240 High Street, Elgin, will close at 3pm on Tuesday, December 24 and reopen at 9am on Friday, December 27. The office will be open for business as usual on Monday, December 30 from 9am to 5pm, thereafter it will be closed until 9am on Friday, January 3.

Public Conveniences

All public conveniences will be closed on December 25 and 26 and on January 1 and 2.

Car Parks Elgin

Batchen Lane and St Giles Multi Storey Car Park, Elgin.

Please note the above car parks will be CLOSED on Christmas Day, 25 December 2013, and New Year’s Day, 1 January 2014.   The car parks will close at 7pm the previous night and will reopen at 9am the day after.   Alternative street level parking is available.
