Do you want to learn or improve your English? Do you want to make new friends and join in a fun group while learning English at the same time? Do you want to improve your English to go to college? Do you need to pass a Speaking and Listening test in English as part of your visa process?


Moray Council offers courses in English Language to suit you!

ESOL for Living and Work

FREE classes once a week, for 2 hours.

Aim: Practise speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

Level: Beginner to Intermediate (CEFR A1 – B1) (SQA N2 – N4)

When: Daytime and Evening classes are available

Where: Elgin Community Centre, Forres Community Centre or Buckie Lady Cathcart Centre

Our courses are tailored to learners’ needs so can help you improve your language skills and confidence where you need it.

Before joining a class we ask you to come in for an initial assessment to find your level of English before finding the most suitable group for you.

Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) qualifications are available.  Find out more about SQA ESOL here

ESOL for visa purposes

The Home Office has announced that, as from 1 May 2017, non-EEA nationals will need to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in speaking and listening at A2 level after two-and-a-half years in the UK in order to qualify for further leave to remain on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement.

Trinity's Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) Grade 3 (A2) SELT has been approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) for this purpose. Find out more about the Trinity SELT exam here.

Moray Council ESOL is a Listed Provider for the courses to help you prepare for the Trinity SELT (Secure English Language Tests). We are the only Listed Provider north of Edinburgh.

Aim: Prepare for the Trinity Graded Examinations in Spoken English

Level: A2 and B1

When: Intensive week long (25 hours) classes or partime Daytime and Evening classes are available
