7th International Conference on Evaluation for Practice
Eight Acres Hotel, Elgin, Moray, Scotland 9-11 March 2010
‘A meeting place for various and complementary approaches’
Conference Context and Themes
The focus of the conference is on evaluation research which has implications for practice, defined broadly to include social
work, as well as education, health and other human services. As in previous years, the conference brings together researchers
and practitioners from a variety of countries, to share their experiences for studying effectiveness and processes in practice
at micro or macro levels, providing evidence of the efficacy and value of practice, and striving to help practitioners improve
their practice in response to changing needs and contexts.
The theme of our conference “A Meeting place for Various and Complementary Approaches" emphasises our desire to promote the integration of different methods, quantitative as well as qualitative, and approaches
in evaluation for studying contexts, content, processes and outcomes of interventions. Thus, the conference carries on a tradition
of international conferences on evaluation for practice that started in 1995 in Huddersfield (England), and followed by conferences
in Miami, with SSWR in 1998 and in Huddersfield in 2000 & 2005; and in Tampere, Finland, organized by The Department of Social
Policy and Social Work, University of Tampere and the National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health (STAKES):
FinSoc (The Finnish Evaluation Unit for Social Services) in 2002 where more than 300 European, USA and other international
presenters participated.
A full Conference Programme will be available here from 5 February 2010.
