Moray Sensory Service

The Moray Sensory Service is part of the Health and Social Care Moray partnership.

We provide a specialist service for people across Moray who are Deaf or affected by hearing loss, sight loss, or both.

The service transferred from North East Sensory Service (NESS) to Health and Social Care Moray on 1 April 2026.

We work closely with colleagues across social work, occupational therapy, education, housing and health services, including ophthalmology, optometry, audiology, stroke services and neurology. We also link with third sector organisations such as NESS.

Register of Visually Impaired Adults

We are required to maintain a register of adults who are certified as sight impaired or severely sight impaired by a Consultant Ophthalmologist.

Registration is voluntary.

If a person gives their consent, they will be added to the register and sent a registration certificate along with a letter containing contact details for the Moray Sensory Service.

Registration can help people access services and support that may assist them to retain or regain independence.

However, you do not need to be registered to receive support from Health and Social Care Moray.

Moray British Sign Language (BSL) Plan 2024 to 2030

Moray Council has published its updated British Sign Language (BSL) Plan, setting out how it will work to improve access to services and support for BSL users across Moray.

The plan focuses on making day-to-day life in Moray more inclusive for D/deaf people by promoting:

  • better communication
  • greater awareness
  • practical actions that individuals, services and organisations can take to support the local BSL community

Moray Council will work with partners to help deliver these commitments.
