FOI Request - Libraries at Risk

Request 101000157163

You have kindly replied to my query re the destination of funds gained by selling off 3-4 Library buildings and moving them to school premises by stating that profits had gone into the "general fund". Could you now please tell me the amount of the profit and explain why this amount plus the saving of -I believe-£77,000- gained by not having to re-pay the EU grant cannot be used to keep the 7 threatened libraries open. The cost of the 7 Libraries is only-I understand -around £50,000 per year(obviously an on going amount as opposed to a one off amount) ,but my guess is that the total capital amount is at least enough to run the libraries for 3+years by which time political/economic scenarios will have changed most probably for the better and you will be near the end of your requirement to save £30million over 3 - 4 years.

The Moray Council does not operate libraries for profit, so in relation to the first part of your request this information is not held and is therefore exempt under Section 17 (1b) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

The other part of your request is seeking opinion rather than factual information; opinion is not provided under FOI and this part of your request is best addressed to Elected Members.
