Homelessness Policy - Interview Standards

Every person will be treated with respect, courtesy and in a non-judgemental manner.

Where possible, customers will be advised prior to an interview that they have the right to be interviewed by a member of staff of the same sex and that they have a right to have a friend, relative or representative present at the interview.

Interviews will take place in a private interview room and at a time and location convenient both for the customer and their personal representative or, if required, interpreter.

Customers will be encouraged to disclose all relevant information.  Any information provided will be used in a non-prejudicial way and in complete confidence.  All information provided by a customer will be treated confidentially and will only be shared in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/29/contents.

Every customer will receive a clear and simple explanation of this policy and on the Council’s procedures for maximising housing options and assessing homelessness applications.
