I would like to know how much overpaid council tax your council currently has waiting to be claimed by families of deceased relatives. How much has been refunded to families of those who have died and as a result overpaid council tax in each of the last five years?

I have for the purposes of clarity reproduced your Freedom of Information request below and appended our answers to each of your questions.

Question: I would like to know how much overpaid council tax your council currently has waiting to be claimed by families of deceased relatives.

Answer:  The council does not hold any overpaid Council Tax awaiting a claim by the relatives of deceased persons.  All such monies are refunded to the executors as part of the process of updating our Council Tax database following notification of a death.

 

Question: How much has been refunded to families of those who have died and as a result overpaid council tax in each of the last five years?

Answer:  It is not possible to provide a response to this question as Council Tax refunds issued to the executors deceased person's estates are not dealt with separately from other Council Tax refunds.
