FOI Request - Renewable Energy

Request 101000320575

Please can you tell me if your local authority is purchasing renewable energy, and if so how much?
It would be helpful if you could make the distinction between purchases and onsite renewables.

Also, can you tell me if you have a renewable energy target, and if so how close you are to achieving it.

Response 10-02-2015

All Moray Council non domestic energy is purchased from Scottish Procurement, a department within the Scottish Government. A percentage of the energy purchased is from renewable sources, but individual customers are not made aware of the breakdown.  Carbon emission reduction figures are allocated to the generator of the energy and not the consumer.

At present The Moray Council has 4 sites utilising biomass heating.  This accounted for 1,526,735 kWh of renewable energy in 2013/14.

The Council does not have a renewable energy target but remains committed to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions, with a corporate target to reduce energy consumption and CO2 from its buildings by 20% between 2013 and 2023.
