FOI Request - Energy Usage

Request 101000331555

I'm doing some research relating to energy usage (electricity, gas etc) and optimisation and would appreciate if the following information could be made available:

1.) What forms the main component of the councils energy bills (heating, lighting etc) and how are its energy bills broken down?

a.) Please also include locations (e.g. street lighting, which council buildings, one of events) with highest energy usage?

2.) Can I have historic data on total energy consumption by the council (including the split (whether gas, electricity etc.)? Where possible upto 10years historic data.

3.) What are the future plans for energy usage, including:

a.) Energy optimisation measures?

b.) What measures to increase cleaner energy usage?

c.) What plans to use energy suppliers with higher clean energy supply component?

d.) What plans to use or increase use of CHP (Combined Heat and Power)?

4.) Which energy suppliers have been used in the past 10 years?

1.  Approx 70% of the councils operational energy (non-domestic buildings) is for heating (gas, oil and biomass) based on 2013/14 figures.

1 (a)  For 2013/14:

Street lighting – 6,296,364 kWh (unmetered)

Above consumption not weather corrected.

Only 5 years worth of data in this format available.

3.  To reduce consumption from its buildings by 20% over 10 years from 2013-2023.

3(a)  Ongoing programme of energy reduction projects and awareness raising/education.

3(b)  All public sector organisations in Scotland have their main energy procured through the Scottish Government. The Council is therefore not in a position to influence those energy supplies. The Council is however increasing its use of biomass fuel.

3(c) See answer for b.) above.

3(d) No plans for use of CHP.
