FOI Request - Crisis Grants

Request 101000339670

1.  Between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2014 how many of those applying for Crisis Grants did so because sanctions had been imposed by the JobCentre relating to their Jobseekers Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance claim?

2.  How many of the sanctioned applicants in Q1 were considered vulnerable due to ‘homelessness or an unsettled way of life’?

3.  Between 2013 and 2014 how many active Housing Benefit claims were you advised via DWP notification that the claimant had their JSA or ESA stopped as a result of a) a sanction, and b) a disentitlement?

Response 01-05-2015

We may have some of the information you have asked for, but this would entail a manual check of over 2000 applications during the period 01/04/13 - 31/03/14. This would take an excessive amount of time, and therefore your request is exempt under Section 12 of FOI(S)A, excessive cost of compliance. The exemption we had originally applied, Section 17b - information not held, only applies to part of the request. This is in relation to the crisis applications made as a result of Job Centre Plus sanctions as 'benefit sanction imposed by Job Centre Plus' is not a reason captured by us for crisis grant applications.

The only application reasons we capture are those specified in the Scottish Government's Scottish Welfare Fund Data Monitoring Specification.
