Manuscripts and Publications

A number of manuscripts - or more correctly, typescripts - are included in the Anson archive. Many of these are heavily annotated by the author, which is indicative of the care and accuracy he was careful to apply to all his work.

The first page of the typescript for 'Exploring Ports and Harbours', including the suggested synopsis. It is typically typed onto quarto paper. Subsequent pages are generally numbered by hand, in pencil or ink, in the top right corner. This book was written while he was living at Low Shore, Macduff.

Another typical Anson typescript. Although in this case it has not been possible, at this stage, to identify the book to which this relates, its subject is the 'seamen priests' of the 'Mission de la Mer' - a subject combining Anson's interest in the Sea and the Church. Rather unusually, the typescript is intermixed with handwritten pages, and some drawings and sketches, shown below, along with a receipt from Sam's restaurant in Juan-Les-Pins, dated 1929 for '1 Diner, 1 Verre Vin Rouge' costing Fr13.50.

Both the drawings, as well as the receipt, are heavily annotated on the back in pen and pencil.

The publisher's 'flyer' and reviews for 'Underground Catholicism in Scotland'. It is undated, but advertised the book for sale at £2.25

Copy of an article linking Anson's faith and the Sea, written probably in the late 1930's.
