Initially the post of Lord-Lieutenant was a military appointment and this remained so for several centuries. In Moray we have two RAF bases and there are strong connections with Territorial and Cadet units.

Lord-Lieutenant's Certificates
A Lord-Lieutenant's Certificate for meritorious service may be awarded to members of the Territorial Army and other Volunteer Reserve Forces.

Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets
The Lord-Lieutenant may appoint young people from the Armed Services to serve for one year as Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet. These are chosen in conjunction with the RFCA and are the star cadets in the various cadet forces. During their year as Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet they will attend the Lord-Lieutenant on a wide range of his duties.
