1. Do you currently operate a segregated or commingled kerbside collection service for dry recyclable materials?
2. Do you have a policy or directive that specifies that all your kerbside-collected dry recycling materials should be recycled in the UK?

3. For aluminium specifically,
a) Who sorts and recycles your aluminium for you?
b) If outsourced, please specify the company or organsation?
c) Is your aluminium recycled in the UK?
d) How much annual income do you derive from the sale of recycled aluminium?
e) Does this income subsidise, or make a substantial contribution to, the cost of your whole recycling programme?
f) What would be the impact to your overall recycling programme if you lost your entire aluminium recycling income?
g) Would you have to increase your Council Tax to compensate for such a loss?
4. Are you a member of any local authority waste management partnership?
a) If so, which one?
b) Does it operate its own Materials Recovery Facility?
c) Does it have a policy or directive to ensure that aluminium is recycled in the UK?

1. We provide a segregated kerbside recycling collection for the following streams:
Mixed glass
Mixed paper and cardboard
Mixed cans (steel and aluminium) and plastics (PET 1, HDPE 2, PP 5)
2. Within our Tenders we request that all materials are recycled within the UK as far as possible.
a) We have separate Tenders/Agreements for the following materials:
Mixed papers and cardboard
Mixed glass
Co-mingled cans & plastics, plus sorted aluminium cans, steel cans and baled plastics material from our small MRF.

a) We have a small MRF on site that segregates about a third of our total tonnage of co-mingled cans and plastics into aluminium cans, steel cans and baled plastics (PET 1, HDPE & PP). These 3 materials are then sent onto Wyllies Recycling Ltd.
Two thirds of our co-mingled cans & plastics goes to Wyllies Recycling Ltd for sorting.

c) Yes.
d) Our income for aluminium is linked in with Lets Recycle.com and varies monthly.
e) Income received is used to net the overall cost to the council for delivering the recycling service.
f) Increased costs as services must be delivered in line with the current waste regulations and codes of practice.
g) Council tax covers various things of which waste is a small proportion, therefore any loss of the aluminium income would not directly lead to an increase in the level set by the Council.
