FOI Request - Kinship Carers Weekly Allowance

Regarding the weekly allowance provided to kinship carers within your local authority area.

Specifically, I would like to know:
               1.            The current weekly allowance rate paid to kinship carers.
               2.            Any additional financial support provided to kinship carers, such as one-off payments or reimbursements.
               3.            Any criteria or conditions that affect the amount of weekly allowance a kinship carer might receive.
               4.            The process for reviewing and adjusting the allowance rates, if applicable.

Response 04-04-2025

1. Age related allowances:

 0-4 168.31 

5-10 195.81 

11-15 202.58 

16+ 268.41

2. Two weeks extra at summer, one week for Christmas and one week for birthdays  Start-up allowance is £500 for the first child and an extra £250 per subsequent child if siblings are placed together.

3. Pre approval they receive £100, full allowances are backdated once approved.

4. The allowances are the same as for foster carers which are set by Scottish Government so will increase when advised to.
