We request the following information from your local authority housing service. The subject of our request relates to housing stock and the adaptations disabled people have made to their homes.

1. Wheelchair Accessible Housing Stock?

a) How many wheelchair accessible homes are within current social housing stock?
b) How many wheelchair accessible homes in current social housing stock are voids? We define a void as a home which currently does not have a tenant or a vacant wheelchair accessible property which does not have a current tenant due to requiring repairs?
c) In the current Strategic Housing Investment Plan for the next 5 years how many?
d) Social housing units are planned?
e) Wheelchair Accessible units are planned?

2. Adaptations?

a) What are the 5 most common adaptations that the housing service have installed in disabled people's homes in the last 12 months?
b) What is the lifecycle backlog of outstanding adaptations from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2026 in terms of the number of each type of adaptation requested by disabled residents?

Page 44 refers to a target of 10% wheelchair accessible housing across all tenures.  We do not hold a separate figure for the number of wheelchair-accessible units planned within the Strategic Housing Investment Plan.

2. a) Our Council’s minor and major adaptations are managed by different teams.  There is no requirement to categorise adaptions for statutory reporting purposes, but our records suggest that the five most common adaptations installed during the period would have been as follows:

   Minor adaptations: 

   • Grab rails

   • Newel rails

   • Bannister/hand rails

   • External rails

   • Threshold adaptations (lowering, levelling and modifying thresholds)

    

   Major adaptations:

   • level-access showers

   • ramps

   • door entry systems. 

   • kitchen alteration

   • remaining works categorised as "other alterations".

 b) We have assumed that, by "lifecycle backlog", you mean the number of adaptation requests received during this period which remained outstanding at 31 March 2026.
