This request concerns road markings on all highways, roads or trunk roads for which your organisation is the highway or roads authority, or which it manages or maintains on behalf of a highway or roads authority. This includes all types of road marking, including white and yellow lines and road studs.

1. Please provide your organisation's current policy or policies relating to the monitoring, maintenance, repair and replacement of road markings, together with any standards, guidance or inspection manuals currently relied upon. This may include the Highway Asset Management Plan and Highway Safety Inspection Policy. Please provide links where the documents are already publicly available.

2. Please provide any recorded information showing how, and how often, the condition of road markings is assessed, including whether this is carried out through dedicated surveys, routine highway inspections, reports from contractors or reports from members of the public. Please also provide any recorded condition rating system, threshold or intervention criterion used to determine when work is required.

3. For each financial year from 2021/22 to 2025/26, please provide the number of road-marking defects recorded in your organisation's highway inspection or asset management system. Where recorded, please break the figures down by how the defect was identified (for example, routine safety inspection, report from a member of the public, or other source) and give the number of those defects that were repaired or closed in the same financial year. I am requesting figures that can be extracted from existing systems, not a manual review of individual records. If road-marking defects cannot be separated from other defect types, please say how they are categorised and provide the closest available recorded figures.

4. For each financial year from 2021/22 to 2025/26, please provide:

a) the total recorded expenditure on road markings, and, where recorded, a breakdown into planned or programmed work and reactive work;

b) where recorded, the length or area of road markings renewed through planned or programmed work.

Please state whether the figures in (a) include road markings delivered as part of resurfacing or other wider highways schemes. If road-marking expenditure is not recorded separately, please identify the budget or cost heading it falls under and provide the closest available recorded figures.
