Under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, please provide the number of individual teachers recorded by the council on 1 September 2025 and 1 September 2026. If an exact snapshot is unavailable for either date, please use the closest available HR or payroll snapshot and state the date used.

For each date, please give separate headcounts for Primary and Secondary teachers in the following employment categories:

1. Permanent substantive: teachers on permanent contracts whose substantive role is not supply, relief or cover.

2. Fixed-term or temporary: teachers on fixed-term or temporary contracts for a defined period, excluding those engaged solely for casual or short-term supply work.

3. Permanent supply, relief or cover: teachers on permanent contracts whose substantive role is supply, relief, cover or similar staffing across one or more schools. Please include any permanent supply pool, permanent relief, floating or permanent cover teachers, or equivalent arrangements, and report this group separately from other permanent teachers where it is separately identifiable.

4. Non-permanent casual or short-term supply: teachers engaged for ad hoc or short-term absence cover who were recorded as employed or engaged on the snapshot date. Please report this separately from people who were only on a supply register.
