I am writing to request recorded information concerning surface water drainage constraints affecting development within your local authority area.

For the period 1 January 2023 to 30 September 2026, please provide the following information held by the Council:

1. Number of affected developments

How many housing or other development sites have been identified by the Council as being delayed, constrained, redesigned or otherwise affected because an acceptable surface water drainage solution could not readily be agreed or provided?

2. Nature of the constraint

For those developments, where the information is held, please identify whether the surface water issue related to:

a) the absence of a suitable or practicable outfall;
b) insufficient capacity within an existing drainage or sewer network;
c) difficulties obtaining agreement for a proposed surface water discharge;
d) the requirement for additional surface water drainage infrastructure; or
e) another recorded surface water drainage constraint.

3. Development delay

Where recorded, please provide the length of delay attributed to the surface water drainage issue for each affected development.

4. Additional cost or viability impact

Where recorded, please provide details of any additional infrastructure cost, development cost or viability issue attributed to resolving the surface water drainage constraint.

5. Affected sites

Where held, please provide a list of the affected developments, including:

a) site or development name;
b) location;
c) planning application reference;
d) number of proposed homes, where applicable; and
e) the recorded surface water drainage issue.
