1. How many artworks have been purchased by the local authority in 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19?
2. How many artworks are in the possession of the local authority?
3. What is the estimated value of the artworks?
4. How many of the artworks are on public display?

Public display includes those that can be viewed by the members of the public in local authority buildings such as council headquarters, libraries, sports and leisure centres, and schools that are under local authority control. It would exclude areas of council properties that cannot be readily be entered into by members of the public (such as, for example, the office of the head of paid service).

Artwork includes, but is not limited to, paintings, photographs, sculptures and electronic art.

1. How many artworks have been purchased by the local authority in 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19? - in 2017 - 18, 

3 sculptures have been commissioned on behalf of the Castle to Cathedral to Cashmere partnership.
 

2. How many artworks are in the possession of the local authority?

We have 1325 items of artwork (paintings) and 22 (sculptures) accessioned in the collection. All of our oil paintings can be seen on www.artuk.org. Moray Libraries possess 284 artworks. Total: 1631.
 

3. What is the estimated value of the artworks? 

Maps, photographs and prints in the Public Library, Elgin - sum insured £178,000
Art prints and framing in the insured's public libraries or whilst on loan to borrowing library members - sum insured £115,000
Paintings in the insured's public libraries - sum insured - £15,000

No detailed figures are available for other council-owned artworks. We cannot therefore provide a total estimated value. This information is therefore exempt under Section 17 of the FOISA - Information Not Held. 

4. How many of the artworks are on public display?

The Falconer Museum has a small gallery space where up to 20 Anson paintings are displayed on a rolling basis. Our database shows there are 15 other paintings displayed in other Council buildings. 155 are on public display in Moray Libraries. 
The 3 sculptures are on permanent public display in Elgin town centre.
