FOI Request - Drug Case Workers and Vaping in Schools

1.  Which schools in your local authority area have drug case workers attached to them? How many are attached to each school.

2.  Can you tell us how many children are assigned to said case workers at each school.

3.  How many occasions have there been since July 1 2021, where drug case workers were assigned to work with young people to assist them with vape problems in your local authority area?

4.  How many children have been suspended or expelled for vaping on school premises since July 1, 2021. Can you break down the results for each school.

5.  Can you send any policies which exist around young people vaping at schools. Can you break these down if they differ for each school.

6.  How many inspections has your local authority carried out on premises licenced to sell vape products? Of these inspections how many have resulted in action being taken; please provide us with action taken broken down by premises.

1. None.

4. This information is held in individual pupil files. We would have to look in every file. This task would cost the Council in excess of £600 of staff time. In accordance with section 12 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (excessive cost), we are therefore unable to comply with this part of the request. which would be excessive cost.  
5. Not held. We do not currently have a policy on vaping. Information that is not held falls under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Information not held.


6. Since July 2021, there have been 141 inspections carried out on premises licensed to sell NVPs. Of these, 29 were provided with either a written or verbal warning including a request to voluntarily remove non compliant NVPs from sale.
