1.  The number of recorded incidents where ASN pupils were physically restrained or placed in a seclusion room in each of the last five academic years (2019-20 to 2023-24).

2.  The number of formal complaints received from parents/guardians regarding the use of restraint or seclusion for ASN pupils over the last five academic years.

3.  The number of formal exclusions where the pupil had an ASN diagnosis, broken down by year for the last five academic years.

1. We would have to read though thousands of incident report forms to get this information. This task would cost the Council in excess of £600 of staff time. In accordance with section 12 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (excessive cost), we are therefore unable to comply with this part of the request.

2. The number of complaints as per the question is lower than 5. Low numbers may lead to the identification of individuals. This information is therefore exempt under Section 38(1)(b) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Personal Information.

3. This is the number of pupils excluded and the number of exclusion incidents (some pupils have 2 or more exclusions within the academic year)

2020/21 - 90 pupils / 143 incidents
2021/22 - 76 pupils / 136 incidents
2022/23 - 120 pupils / 212 incidents
2023/24 - 130 pupils / 209 incidents
2024/25 - 83 pupils / 122 incidents (as at 27th March 2025)
