Scope and timeframe
Please provide the following recorded information for local-authority schools for the period academic years 2015/16 to 2024/25 (year-to-date) and, where specified, monthly from 1 August 2023 to the most recent complete month:
1.. Monthly time-series (service-level, Aug 2023 – latest):
a) Number of pupils on a reduced/part-time timetable.
b) Average hours per week provided for pupils on reduced timetables (mean and median, if held).
c) Counts by phase (Primary/Secondary/Special).
d) Counts by main reason category used locally (e.g., phased reintegration, medical/ASN, behaviour/safety, other).
2.. Annual indicators (2015/16 – 2024/25 YTD):
a) Unique pupils placed on a reduced/part-time timetable in each year, by phase.
b) Average and median duration (weeks) of reduced timetable arrangements, if recorded.
c) Number of pupils whose reduced timetable extended beyond 6 weeks.
d) Where routinely held, service-level totals by protected characteristic proxy (e.g., sex; ASN status), in aggregate only.
3. Policy, coding and templates:
a) The definition you use for “reduced/part-time timetable” and the reason categories/codes in use (with any definitions).
b) Any current policy/guidance and template or approval form used for authorising, reviewing and ending reduced timetables (including review period).
4. Management information:
Any management/committee reports since 1 August 2023 summarising reduced/part-time timetable usage or trends.

Please note, the information below is for the current academic year, 2024/25. To find the information for previous years and broken into months we would have to look through thousands of individual pupil files. This task would cost the Council in excess of £600 of staff time. In accordance with section 12 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (excessive cost), we are therefore unable to comply with this part of the request.
