I am writing to ask for information relating to teacher numbers and employment in your local authority. All of the questions relate to the following subjects at secondary: (a) biology, (b) chemistry, (c) physics, (d) maths, (e) technological education and (f) computing.

1.  In your local authority, how many subject specialist teachers are currently employed in each individual secondary school in the above subjects? Please provide both the number of individuals and the FTE for each subject in each school.

2.  How many teacher vacancies have been advertised in the above subjects in 2023-2024 and in 2024-2025 in your local authority? How many were filled? How many were re-advertised? Please answer on a subject-by-subject basis, and provide separate responses for each year.

3.  How many secondary schools, if any, within the local authority have experienced difficulties in obtaining subject specialist supply teachers for the above subjects?

4.  What complement of specialist secondary school teachers would your local authority require in order to ensure that each school was fully staffed to deliver an optimal curriculum in each of the above subjects? Please provide this information broken down by school and in FTE format.

5.  To what extent have any teacher shortages in the above subjects affected the subject choices of pupils in secondary schools in your local authority?
