FOI Request - Council Tax Pension Contributions

Request 101003963194

1. Could you please advise how much council tax goes on pension contributions ?

Response 10-04-2026

1. Not held. No specific calculation is made that attributes a proportion of Council Tax income to pensions. Information that is not held falls under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Information not held.

Council Tax is not ring fenced for any specific service or cost. It forms part of the Council’s general funding and is pooled with other income streams (e.g. Scottish Government grant, non domestic rates) to support the overall cost of running services. Employer pension contributions are therefore funded from the Council’s total budget, not from Council Tax specifically.
