FOI Request - Review of 101003969121 20MPH Signage

Review of 101003969121 20MPH Signage

I recently received an answer to my FOI request in relation to the 20MPH speed project in Moray ( ref 101003969121) I believe the total cost quoted could be incorrect. I asked for the total cost of the project for the whole of Moray.

I’ve seen historic news items that claimed the project was to cost up to £3 million .  I have also been informed by a person who has a working knowledge of the project the cost was £3.3 million.  Is it possible that the answer I received is incorrect?? And the figure supplied to me was just for Elgin??.

I look forward to your response.

Response 22-05-2026

Following your request for a review (our review ref: 101003991175) of your Freedom of Information (FOI) Request – 20MPH Signage (our ref: 101003969121) – a review meeting was held on 14th May 2026. In attendance were the Information Governance Manager and Data Protection Officer; Engineer (Traffic); Solicitor; and Information Co-ordinator.

Your FOI Request (101003969121) from 25th March 2026 was discussed.

We confirm that the information given in our response from 21st April 2026 was correct, and, that the information supplied is for all of Moray. Therefore we we stand by our previous response.

In order to be helpful we tried to find where the sum you quoted could have originated from, but have not been able to locate a source. There were estimates for different scenarios that were discussed in 2022; some of them had included additional features such as raised crossings and other additions, which would have come at a higher cost. In case it is of interest, there is a dedicated section on the Moray Engage website, https://engage.moray.gov.uk/ , for the “20mph speed limit consultation”; here you can find links to relevant previous Committee Reports, including those from 2022 and 2024, as well as Scottish Government policy and guidance, along with an interactive map.
