FOI Request - Parking at Edgar Road Retail Park
Request 101003993516
I am submitting this under the Freedom of Information Act in regards to the Aldi proposing to move to an empty unit in Edgar Road.
Can you provide the rationale/ decision that there is not enough parking?
1. When the units were built the council clearly decided at the planning stage there was enough parking for all the units, why now is there an issue with the move - regarding parking?
2. Can you also provide evidence why the move has been stalled regarding parking, considering there are still empty units.
3. Can you provide evidence regarding the parking numbers when the units were built and the rationale to why there wasnt a problem then, considering units have always been empty.
Response 29-05-2026
The use of the units to sell food requires planning permission because the retail park has a limit on the floor area of food retail permitted within it, and the proposal also includes an extension to the rear. The applicant has therefore applied for a change of use. This application is still pending consideration and will be determined in due course.
The answers to the questions raised by the inquirer in respect of parking can be found in the Transportation Manager’s consultation response to the planning application (file dated 25 March 2026) and this information is therefore exempt under section 25 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, information otherwise accessible.
