Scope and timeframe

Please provide the following recorded information for academic years 2015/16 to 2024/25 (year-to-date) for local-authority schools:

A. Exclusions (annual):
• Temporary/fixed-period exclusions: counts by phase (Primary/Secondary/Special) and by your reason categories (service-level totals).
• Permanent exclusions (if applicable): counts by phase.
• Days lost to temporary exclusions (service-level totals), if routinely reported.

B. Persistent exclusion measure (service-level):
• The definition/threshold you use for “persistent” exclusions (e.g., =3 temporary exclusions in an academic year, or your local equivalent).
• Annual count of pupils meeting the persistence threshold.

C. Managed moves (annual):
• Managed moves initiated and managed moves completed, by phase (service-level totals).
• If recorded, outcome categories (e.g., sustained placement, returned, alternative provision).

D. Coding and policy:
• The reason codes list/definitions used for exclusions.
• Current policy/guidance on exclusions and managed moves.

A. Exclusions counts the number of incidents and half days lost for each academic year since 2015/16.  Exclusions details counts the number of incidents and half days lost by circumstance each academic year since 2020/21 (this is taken form SEEMIS BI which only goes back to 2020/21).

B. Persistent Exclusions - we have used the suggested threshold of 3 or more exclusions within an academic year - figures attached
