If, for example, you want to pay by 5th of the month over 10 months (April till January) but it's now February, continue to set up the Direct Debit online and we will contact you to set up an arrangement to pay the remaining balance by Direct Debit on another instalment date suitable to you, that is still available. The Direct Debit will then be reassessed for the new financial year.

This guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits. If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, Moray Council will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request Moray Council to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request. If an error is made in payment of your Direct Debit, by Moray Council or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society. If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when Moray Council asks you to. You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us.

What happens if a mistake is made?
If the Council or your Bank or Building Society makes a mistake, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your Bank or Building Society of the amount paid. This is an important part of the Direct Debit Guarantee Scheme.
Can I cancel a Direct Debit Instruction?
Yes. A Direct Debit Instruction can be cancelled at any time by contacting your Bank or Building Society. Please also inform us regarding the cancellation.
Do I need to complete a new Direct Debit Instruction at the start of every financial year?
No. Unlike payment by Standing Order, a Direct Debit Instruction is a continuous payment authority, which remains in operation until cancelled by you.
