Scottish Parliamentary Election 2026
The Scottish Parliament Election will take place on Thursday 7 May 2026.
The Scottish Parliament has 129 Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs). If you live in Scotland, you are represented by eight MSPs:
If you live in the Moray constituency:
- one MSP for your Moray constituency, and
- seven MSPs for the wider Highlands and Islands region
or, if you live in the Banffshire and Buchan Coast constituency:
- one MSP for your Banffshire and Buchan Coast constituency
- seven MSPs for the wider North East Scotland Region.

You will receive two ballot papers if you are registered to vote.
you will vote using :
- a lilac ballot paper to chose your constituency MSP
- a peach ballot paper to choose a party or an independent candidate for the regional seats
For each ballot, place a single X in the box next to the candidate or party you want to vote for.
Polling takes place on Thursday 7 May 2026 from 7am to 10pm.
You can also vote by post in advance of the election, if you are registered to do so.
The count will begin at 9am on Friday 8 May 2026 at the Moray Sports Centre, Elgin
The results will be declared at this count for:
- the Moray constituency
the regional result will be declared by Highland Council.
The Chief Executive of Moray Council, Karen Greaves BEM, is the Returning Officer. She is responsible for administering the election in the Moray Constituency.
