How to Comment on a Planning Application

Our e-planning portal allows you to:

  • search for Planning applications
  • submit a comment about a Planning Application
  • view all comments related to a Planning Application
  • see the decisions made about a Planning Application

To use the search facility - go to the search box and enter a keyword, reference number, postcode or single line of an address. Click search, then choose the appropriate application. You can also use the online maps to search visually.

To make a comment about a planning application go to the e-planning portal and search for the application you are interested in. Click on Make a Public Comment or the Comments tab which will open an form, which you can submit.

In addition to information on planning applications, details of representations and consultation responses on valid applications received on or after 1st April 2011 will also be available to view, with redaction applied to personal or sensitive information within documents - see policy (PDF).

To view all comments and other documents related to the planning application click on the Document tab.

When you make a comment on a planning application, your comments are recorded against that application, and are made available online to the public.

A comment can also be made by email or in writing to Development Management and Building Standards Manager, Environmental Services, The Moray Council, High Street, Elgin, IV30 1BX.

An acknowledgement letter will be sent out confirming if comments and objections have been received within or outwith the time period. If the objection is received within the time period, the objector will be advised of the outcome of the application, once a decision has been reached.

Committee Written Comments

Should the Planning Application that you submit a comment about be referred to the Planning & Regulatory Services Committee, including special meetings and The Moray Council (Pre-Determination Hearings), you have the opportunity to submit a further representation, introducing no new information, for the Committee’s consideration following the publication of the Appointed Officer’s Committee report. This must be received by 2pm on the day prior to the Committee.
