Apply for Council Housing
Current restrictions to household visits made by the Scottish Government refer to social visits. House moves are permitted provided they are carried out safely. Please se the Scottish Government Guidance on Moving Home.
The way you apply for housing with us has changed
We have a new online housing application. We allocate our properties in line with our Allocations Policy.
Before you apply please read our Allocations Leaflet and /or our Easy Read Allocations Policy. These will explain everything you need to know about the application process, including what types of decisions can be reached based on your own circumstances.
From 29 April 2021 if you want to be considered for housing with Moray Council you will need to register and create a Housing Online account and select the relevant option:
- Create a housing application - to create a new application
- Incomplete Housing Application - to continue with an application which has only been partially completed.
- Completed and accepted - to update and amend an application which has been completed and submitted already.
Once your application has been accepted and assessed
You will be placed on our housing list. When you reach the top of the housing list, and if there is a suitable vacancy in the areas you have chosen, then we will make you an offer, which will be sent to the email address you provided with your application. You will then be given four working days to view your offer, and accept or reject the property online, which can be done at any time of the day or night.
If you refuse two reasonable offers of accommodation within a period of one year, we will not make any further offers of accommodation to you for six months from the date of your last offer.
Applications will be valid for 12 months. If you do not keep your application up to date, your name will be removed from the waiting list, but you can reapply at any time.
Due to such high demand for council properties, you could be waiting a very long time for a property. It’s important to check what other housing options are available.
