Volunteer Opportunities - Forres Area
All of our volunteering opportunities require either a PVG (Buddies and Day Services) or Standard Disclosure (Alarm Responders) which will be paid for by Moray Council. We also require volunteers to be reliable and committed, trustworthy and respectful, able to maintain boundaries and follow policies and procedures. Training is available including Adult Protection.
Home/Social Buddy – ref FO119 (re-opened 5/5/22)
When – 2 hours once a week
Role – To visit with lady in her own home
Tasks – To visit with lady in her own home for coffee and chat. To provide companionship and to help reduce isolation
Skills required – An awareness of the difficulties experienced by people with dementia and a visual impairment desirable but not essential.
Alarm Responder x 1 ref FO143 (reopened 3/10/22)
When – as required, emergency situations only
Role – Community Alarm responder/keyholder for a lady – must live within 30 minutes travel time
Tasks – call and check well being of person who has activated alarm
Skills required – Understanding, calm in difficult situations, level headed
Phone/Social Buddy – ref FO184 (reopened 4/10/21)
When – 1 hour once a week
Role – To support gentleman to engage in social activities
Tasks – To support gentleman to explore activities and groups in his local area. To help build self-confidence. An interest in computer games desirable but not essential
Skills required – Awareness of the difficulties experienced by people with a learning difficulty desirable but not essential.
Home Buddy – ref FO203 (reopened 29/9/21)
When – 1 hour once a week
Role – To visit with female in her own home for coffee and chat
Tasks – To visit with female at home for coffee and chat. To support with crosswords, jigsaws, etc. To provide social contact.
Skills required – An awareness of the difficulties experienced by people with dementia, visual and hearing impairments desirable but not essential.

Tasks – To visit with lady in her own home providing social contact over cuppa and chat. To play cards
Skills required – An awareness of the difficulties experienced by people with mobility difficulties and anxiety desirable but not essential
Walking Buddy – ref FO287 (28/11/22)
When – 2 hours twice a week (Monday & Wednesday)
Role – To visit with gentleman and support to go out walking
Tasks – To support gentleman to attend N4H organised walks in Forres and Elgin. To help build confidence and improve social contact
Skills required – An awareness of the difficulties experienced by people with mental health issues desirable but not essential

Role – To telephone lady in the evening
Tasks – To telephone lady in the evening providing companionship. To support to go out for coffee on occasions
Skills required – A friendly telephone manner
