Housing Options Guide 7

Section 7. Housing support

Our housing support service provides assistance to people living in hostel accommodation, temporary accommodation or permanent housing.  We also provide a housing support service to people living in sheltered housing.  The housing support team helps people, aged 16 and over, to live as independently as possible in the community.  It does not matter what type of accommodation they live in.  The service helps vulnerable people, and anyone who is at risk of homelessness, to keep their accommodation and maintain their independence.  Housing support services can be provided in a person's own home, whether that is a permanent tenancy, a temporary tenancy or another form of supported accommodation.

What is housing support?

The type of support that is offered will depend on each person's individual needs. The team may offer advice and guidance, signpost to specialist services, or provide a more in-depth person-centred support plan covering different areas of independent living such as:

  • Accommodation issues
  • Health
  • Emotional support
  • Finances, and help with benefits
  • Practical skills
  • Social issues
  • Education, training and employment

All support services that are registered with The Care Inspectorate must commit to openness and learning, which is important for the safe, effective and person-centred provision of health and social care.  This is called a 'Duty of Candour'.  The Council must legally publish their Duty of Candour report annually for each service that provides support. Moray Council's Duty of Candour reports can be found here:

The housing support team can also help you access other specialist support services such as Community Care, Addictions, Mental Health, Debt Advice Services and Women’s Aid.

To find out more about our housing support services, read our Housing Support Policy and Housing Support Leaflet which are both available on our website.
